About BASIX

Once upon a time deep in the heart of South Africa, an idea was born. An idea that would change the way we care for our skin.

It all started in the late 1990s with a passionate independent researcher named Reginald Gevers.

Reginald was a visionary, seeking safer, more natural alternatives to heal and rejuvenate the skin. He delved deep into his research, and the results were nothing short of miraculous. His breakthrough, a healing cream, began its journey under the humble name of DeVino, quietly making waves in the Vaal Triangle.

Enter William Brown... An entrepreneur and close friend, who saw not just a product but a promise. He witnessed the transformative power of Reginald's creation and decided to take it to new heights. With a burning desire to make this remarkable discovery accessible to all, William joined hands with Reginald.

Together, they embarked on a mission to elevate this hidden gem.

They knew they needed to refine and perfect it to meet the exacting standards of pharmacies, healthcare outlets, and, most importantly, you!

And so, DeVino made way for BasiX. The name wasn't chosen by chance; it embodies the very essence of our brand. We believe in getting back to basics, embracing the wisdom of nature to heal and rejuvenate. After all, most skin disorders share common culprits: weak circulation, inflammation, bacteria, fungi, and more. We decided to make simplicity our strength.

The journey wasn't without its challenges, but thanks to the invaluable feedback of pharmacists and loyal customers, we evolved. From the original BASIX Skin Repair Cream to the extra-moisturizing BasiX XM Skin Repair Cream, we expanded our range to cater to diverse skin types and conditions.

In 2014, we introduced a game-changer - BasiX Foot Food. It became an affordable, effective, and beloved product, cherished by many.

Enter Lombardi & Smith... British founder and director Russell Smith discovered BasiX when he lived in Cape Town. Having suffered from dry skin and eczema as a child and coming from a family history of psoriasis, he was keen to find an alternative to the side effects caused by cortisone creams. A friend introduced him to BasiX in 2012 and it made a remarkable difference.

In 2016, Russell returned home to England, where another idea was born.  BasiX wasn't available outside of South Africa and ordering it internationally was costly and difficult, so he approached William and Franchot to form an agreement to expand BasiX internationally under the name Basix Skin Defence.

Basix is now available in the UK, Europe, USA, New Zealand and on Amazon and other online stores. Their partnership continues to flourish introducing new products to the range and new formulations of effective products.
